Goin' Back Carole King
Goin? Back (Goffin ? King)
Although I love Dusty?s and the Byrds? versions, this is my take on Carole?s
version from the Writer Album (1969). The La La Las were done with James Taylor.
The key of G major is as on the record. Acknowledgement to other UG versions for the lyrics.
Verse 1
I [G]think I'm goin' back to the [Dm7/G]things I learned so well in my yout[G]h
I [G]think I'm returning to those da[Dm7/G]ys when I was young enough to know the t[G]ruth
Now there [Em7]are no games to only [Bm7]pass the time
No more e[Em7]lectric trains, no more [G]trees to climb
But think[Am7]ing young and growing o[Am7/D]lder is no [G]sin
And [Am7]I can play the ga[Am7/D]me of life to w[G]in
Verse 2
I can recall a time when I wasn't ashamed to reach out to a friend
Now I think I've got a lot more than just my toys to lend
Now there's more to do than watch my sailboat glide
But every day can be a magic carpet ride
A little bit of courage is all we lack
So catch me if you can, I'm goin' back
[G]La la la la la la [Dm7/G]la la la la la
[G]La la la la la la [Dm7/G]la la la
Now there's [Em7]more to do than watch my [Bm7]sailboat glide
But every [Em7]day can be a magic [G]carpet ride
A [Am7]little bit of co[Am7/D]urage is all we l[G]ack
So [Am7]catch me if you [Am7/D]can, I'm goin' ba[G]ck
And so on
Harder Chords Dm7/G = G11 (notes G D F A C)
