Elf's Lament Barenaked Ladies
----------------------------------------------
Tabbet by Daniel Olsen
This tab is as close as I could get it.
I have included some comments in the bottom
with regards to the parts of the song that I
couldn't quite get right. Any help would be
much appreciated.
----------------------------------------------
Capo 2
Standard Tuning
Chords:
[F] [G] [C] [Am] [Dm] [E]
e|-1---3---0---0---1---0--| B|-1---3---1---1---3---0--| G|-2---0---0---2---2---1--| D|-3---0---2---2---0---2--| A|-3---2---3---0---0---2--| E|-1---3---0---X---X---0--|
Verse:
[F]I'm a man of [G]reason, and they [C]say "'Tis the [Am]season to be [Dm]jolly"
But it's [G]folly when you [C]volley for [E]position
[F]Never in ex[G]istence has there [C]been such a res[Am]istance
To i[Dm]deas meant to [G]free us
If you could [C]see us, then you'd [E]listen
[F]Toiling through the [G]ages, making [C]toys on garnished [Am]wages
There's no [Dm]union
We're only [G]through when we out [C]do the compe[E]tition
Chorus:
[F]I [G]make [C]toys, but I've got [E]aspirations
[F]Make [G]some [C]noise
Use your i[E]magination
[F]Girls [G]and [C]boys, before you [E]wish for what you [Dm]wish for
There's a [G]list for who's been
[Dm]Naughty or [C]nice, but con[F]sider the [G]price to an [C]elf
Verse:
A [F]full indentured [G]servitude can re[C]flect on one's [Am]attitude
But that [Dm]silly red hat [G]just makes the [C]fat man look out[E]rageous
Ab[F]surd though it may [G]seem, you know, I've [C]heard there's even been il[Am]legal doping
[Dm]And though we're [G]coping, I just [C]hope it's not con[E]tagious
You [F]try to start a [G]movement, and you [C]think you see im[Am]provement
But when [Dm]thrown into the [G]moment, we just [C]don't seem so cou[E]rageous
Chorus:
[F]I [G]make [C]toys, but I've got [E]aspirations
[F]Make [G]some [C]noise
Use your i[E]magination
[F]Girls [G]and [C]boys, before you [E]wish for what you [Dm]wish for
There's a [G]list for who's been
[Dm]Naughty or [C]nice, but con[F]sider the [G]price to an [C]elf
Bridge:
[C]You look at your[G]self
You're an elf
And the [Am]shelf is just filled with [F]disappointing [Am]memories
[C]Trends come and [G]go, and your friends wanna [Am]know
why you aren't just [C]happy making [Am]crappy little [C]gizmos
Every [F]kid knows they'll just [G]throw this stuff [C]away
Verse:
We're [F]used to repe[G]tition, so we [C]drew up a pe[Am]tition
We, the [Dm]undersigned, feel [G]undermined
Let's [C]redefine [E]"employment"
We [F]know that we've got [G]leverage, so we'll [C]hand the fat man a [Am]beverage
And sit [Dm]back while we at[G]tack the utter [C]lack of our en[E]joyment
It [F]may be tough to [G]swallow, but our [C]threats are far from [Am]hollow
He may [Dm]thunder, but if he [G]blunders, he may [C]wonder where the [E]toys went
Chorus:
[F]I [G]make [C]toys, but I've got [E]aspirations
[F]Make [G]some [C]noise
Use your i[E]magination
[F]Girls [G]and [C]boys, before you [E]wish for what you [Dm]wish for
There's a [G]list for who's been
[Dm]Naughty or [C]nice, but con[F]sider the [G]price
[Dm]Naughty or [C]nice, but con[F]sider the [G]price
[Dm]Naughty or [C]nice, but con[F]sider the [G]price to an elf[C]
END!
------------------------------------------------------------
I'm having some problems with two places in this
song (both in the bridge section):
And the [Am]shelf is just filled with [F]disappointing [Am]memories
Last chord doesn't sound quite right, but as
close as I could get it. And the next part:
[C]Trends come and [G]go, and your friends wanna [Am]know
why you aren't just [C]happy making [Am]crappy little [C]gizmos
The "happy making crappy little gizmos part" part
sounds like its missing something. Please
comment if you have any ideas on how to play this
properly and I'll update the tab.
