Second Handed Flowers Tom T. Hall
Second Handed Flowers
Tom T Hall
[C]I was working in Miami [F]for a day or [C]2 I decided I'd look
up a girl that I once [G]knew I [C]bought some flowers and went
to see the [F]girl I used to [C]know the [F]lady at her [C]door said
she had [G]married long [C]ago. Times will change and towns
will change and [F]there I was a[C]lone suddenly I wondered
would Suzi be at [G]home so [C]with the flowers in my hand I
[F]walked toward her [C]gate some[F]one touched me [C]on the arm and
[G]said you'll have to [C]wait Then I noticed there were people
[F]standing in a [C]line some of them were holdin pretty flowers
just like [G]mine [C]they explained that Suzi had been [F]in an
awful [C]crash [F]doctors said that [C]she had just a [G]little while
to [C]last. When I walked into her room I [F]felt a sense of
[C]shame but I heard Suzi whisper I'm awfully glad you [G]came
[C]she had been the girl I had [F]often gone to [C]see whn [F]someone
that I [C]cared for had [G]been untrue to [C]me. I handed her the
flowers and she [F]gently kissed my [C]hand she [F]said don't be
[C]embarrassed you know I under[G]stand [C]I said goodbye and as I
bent to [F]kiss her fevered[C] brow I[F] heard her whisper[C] thank
you for the [G]second handed [C]flowers.
