Tree of Hearts Bryan White
performed by Bryan White on the album "The Right Place"
written by Skip Ewing and Don Sampson
[G]On a tree inside a [C]heart
A dull boy scout [D]knife took half a day to [G]carve
Michael [G]loves Caro[C]line
He'd just turned [D]ten and she was [G]nine
The summer [G]she turned sweet six[C]teen
He finally found his [D]nerve and took her out to [G]see
And what she [G]saw through her [C]tears
Was seven [D]hearts for seven [G]years
And they [C]stood be[G]neath the [D]tree of hearts[G]
And they [C]watched their [G]feelings grow[D]
And they [C]swore they'd [G]never [D]be apart[G]
[Em]True love [C]left its ma[D]rk
[C]On the [D]tree of he[G]arts
The tenth [G]time he carved their [C]names
Caro[D]line's dad was giving her a[G]way
There be[G]neath the shelter [C]of
The tree of [D]hearts they pledged their [G]love
And then [C]four hearts down the [G]road
They brought the [C]first of [Em]two born [D]home
And they [C]played be[G]neath the [D]tree of hearts[G]
And they [C]watched their [G]children grow[D]
Where they [C]swore they'd [G]never [D]be apart[G]
[Em]True love [C]left its ma[D]rk
[C]On the [D]tree of he[G]arts
In the [C]blinking [Em]of an [D]eye
Somehow [C]fifty-seven [D]hearts flew by
Fifty-[G]eight, fifty-[C]nine
Sixty, [D]he missed Caro[G]line
Sixty-[G]one, Michael [C]knew
There wouldn't [D]be a sixty-two[G]
Now they [C]lay be[G]neath the [D]tree of hearts[G]
You can [C]watch their [G]love still grow[D]
Where they [C]swore they'd [G]never [D]be apart[G]
[Em]True love [C]left its ma[D]rk
[C]On my [D]tree of he[G]arts
Note that the rhythm in this song is kind of odd, so you're usually
switching chords in a place that looks funny on paper. You should
definitely listen to the song to get a handle on the rhythm before you
try anything. I don't know if this is the same key as Bryan sings it
in, because I put chords to it in a key that my voice can handle, but as
transcribed it sounds all right. If you have any corrections, feel free
to e-mail me.
