MOTHER'S LAMENT
I've benefitted from Chordie so much I thought it was time to put something back in. I think this was originally accompanied by upright piano but I worked it out on accoustic guitar. It sounds close but I'm open to correction. The chords for the second"In a jug" sound quite effective if barre. Enjoy! Later Dudes and Dudettes!
Are we rolling? A one, a two, a three, a four...
A [D]mother was washing her [G]baby one night;
The [A]youngest of ten and a [D]delicate mite.
The [D]mother was poor and the [G]baby was thin;
'Twas [A]naught but a skeleton [D]covered with skin.
The [D]mother turned 'round for a [G]soap off the rack.
She was [A]only a moment but [D]when she turned back
Her [D]baby had gone, and in [G]anguish she cried,
"Oh, [A]where has my baby gone?" The [D]angels replied:
Oh, your [D]baby has gone down the [G]plug hole.
Oh, your [A]baby has gone down the [D]plug.
The [G]poor little thing was so [D]skinny and thin,
He [A]should have been [A7]washed in a [D]jug, [A]in [A7]a [D]jug.
Your [D]baby is perfectly [G]happy;
He [A]won't need a bath [D]anymore.
He's a-[G]muckin' about with the [D]angels above,
Not [G]lost but [A]gone be[D]fore.
Do you want to do it again?
