Begin The Beguine   Who

Begin the Beguine
Written by Cole Porter
as arranged by Pete Townshend
>from the album Another Scoop

TABbed by Jay Verkuilen (jayv@uiuc.edu)

The song is in C major (C D E F G A B) with lots of chromatic parts and a
modulation to C minor (C D Eb F G Ab Bb). The rhythm is pretty much
in 4, although there are some strange parts which you'll need to get by
listening to the recording. Pete plays it pretty straight, keeping it simple,
as befits the song, just him and his acoustic. I've heard a lot of versions
of "Begin" and I think his is the best--it captures the plaintive longing of
the song in a way none of the others did. (Some were actually upbeat, which
leads me to wonder if the artist or producer actually understood the lyrics--
kind of like some recordings of Heartbreak Hotel.)

Cmaj7 G7
'Til the stars that were there before return above you
F Dmin7(1) Emin7 Amin9 Amin7
'Til you whisper once more "Darling I love you"

throughout. Here is a TAB of it:
