The rain was[Am] comin' down, the wind was howlin' outside of Slidel[Dm]l.
It was the k[E]ind of night that makes you think the whole world's goin'[Am] to hell.
We got off[Am] on an exit 'cause we couldn't read the map so great[Dm].
Near the C[E]hoctaw Motel, we parked to deliberat[Am]e,

I was drivin' out of there as fast as a Camry coul[Dm]d,
But the interstate [E]was flooded, so I had to take the road through the woo[Am]ds.
Bad move [Am]in retrospect; the road disappeared in the rai[F]n,
And I stood[E] on the brakes when I saw the sign:
"Lake Pon[E]tchartrain..."
Darius was [Am]yelling that he saw somebody out in the swells;
He jumped out, runnin', and Noland was goin[E]' as well.
"Come back[Am]!" Why the hell would they leave the ca[Dm]r?
And that's [E]when I heard it, make no[E] mistake -
The voices w[E]ere calling them from unde[E]r the lake...
"Come down to Lake Pontchartrain...
Come down to Lake Pontchartrain...
Come down to Lake Pontchartrain...
Come down to Lake Pontchartrain..."
The crawfis[Am]h were screaming, the waves dan[Dm]ced in time.
My friends [E]went in deeper; the water, it cli[Am]mbed.
I watched i[Am]n terror; the lake op[Dm]ened wide,
And horribl[E]y roaring, it pulled them[Am] inside.
That's how[Am] it happened! Why would [F]I lie?
There were [E]no bodies, I've got non[Am]e to hide.
I'm just [Dm]a poor boy, lost his friends[Am] in the rain.
