EVERY MOTHERS SON
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
(written by Steve Marriott)
Capo on 1st fret
One two three four
[E] [A] [B]
The [A]last time I [B]saw her she was w[E]avin' me go[A]odbye
She [A]swore no other [B]boy would take my p[E]lace
I took a [A]Mississippi [B]Queen through New Orlea[E]ns and down the B[A]ayou
I [A]hoped to fin[A]d my destin[A]y, my fortu[A]ne and my fa[B]ce
Chorus:
[E]Please tell her [A]that I said h[B]ello
[E]Explain to her I d[A]idn't wanna [B]go
[E]But the message from her d[F#]addy said
He's go[A]nna see me d[B]ead
And [E]if I can get out [B]now, she'll never [E]know[A]
She'll [B]never know, never [E]know
[E] [A] [B] [E]
I s[A]tayed around, I p[B]layed around with [E]all those Southern b[A]elles
[A]But they [A]took away my m[B]oney and my p[E]ride
I h[A]ad no place to [B]go and the r[E]est you know darn w[A]ell
[A]Livin' o[A]ut the gu[A]tter ain't so e[A]asy to des[B]cribe
But I s[A]till had my g[B]uitar, so I jo[E]ined a dirty b[A]and
W[A]orkin' in a sm[B]oky downtown[E] bar
When co[A]mes along this b[B]ig wheel with a co[E]ntract in his h[A]and
[A]Said, '[A]put your[A] mark al[A]ong here b[A]oy
[A]I'm gonna make y[A]ou a Rock 'n'[A] Roll s[B]tar'
Chorus:
[E]Please tell her t[A]hat I said he[B]llo
[E]Explain to her I d[A]idn't wanna to [B]go
[E]But the message from her d[F#]addy said
He's go[A]nna see me d[B]ead
And i[E]f I can get out n[B]ow, she'll never [E]know[A]
Never k[B]now, never kn[E]ow[A] [B] [E]
[E] [A] [B] [E]
[E] [A] [B] [E]
[E]Well the [A]years have come and [B]gone
And I was [E]passing through to f[A]ind
Tha[A]t my home [A]town was s[B]till the same to s[E]ee
[E]Well, the m[A]emory I h[B]ad of her had c[E]rumbled from my m[A]ind
[A]I really d[A]idn't think sh[A]e'd still [A]be waiting [A]here for [B]me
Chorus:
[E]Please tell her t[A]hat I said he[B]llo
[E]Explain to her I d[A]idn't wanna to [B]go
[E]But the message from her d[F#]addy said
He's go[A]nna see me d[B]ead
And i[E]f I can get out n[B]ow, she'll never [E]know[A]
Never k[B]now, never kn[E]ow[A] [B]
repeat E A B 2 times mmmmmhhh yeah
And i[E]f I can get out n[B]ow, she'll never [E]know[A]
Never k[B]now, never kn[E]ow
E A B....never know, never know,
This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
This and my other post "Cold Lady" are one of the few Humble Pie transcriptions
that can be found on the web, as it seems.
(By the way: These are the only ones, at least I found no others. If you find
any others please let me know!)
