Girl on the Wing  The Shins

One wound-up pun[Bm]ch of intu[G]itio[Bm]n, lays [G] [Bm]
flat[G] my whole t[D]ake on [E]us.
[Bm]You're the girl[G] on the w[Bm]ing of a bar[G]nstormer,
[Bm]the tidal rab[G]bit who c[D]ame of
[E]age before her ti[Bm]me.
Bm -> Bbm -> A (rundown)
[A]We could have been [G]so good-natured if I[D]'d relented when you i[A]nsisted,
[Bm]but we've been bac[G]ked against all nature's w[D]alls far too lo[A]ng.
[Bm]You felt ab[G]andoned by me, I rec[D]all the sunshine as y[A]ou were melting
[Bm]and though the com[G]edy softens the f[D]all, they still hear [A]us with their
[G]ears to the wall.
[Bm]I sold a[G]ll my[Bm] evil [G]motives,[Bm] no ici[G]cles
stuck [D]in my hi[E]de.
[Bm]I'm through [G]with r[Bm]iddles, I know w[G]e're l[Bm]ittle
just help [G]me feel w[D]arm
[E]inside.
Before we take this [G]ride and let it slide, into the cracks where f[D]all and
winter collide. I su[G]rrender all my gall in a song of modern lo[D]ve.
[G]Remember you're the one who summoned [D]me above any other ki[A]nd.

[A]We could have been [G]so good-natured if yo[D]u'd relented when [A]I insisted,
[Bm] we take [G]a week off, let the garden g[D]row by it[A]self,
[Bm]and let the gl[G]uttons fill themselves with a[D]ll the worst of the g[A]ory nineties
[Bm] And though the com[G]edy softens the f[D]all, we still fall sh[A]ort.
Before we take this r[G]ide and let it slide into the cracks where fa[D]ll
and winter collide.
I surr[G]ender all my gall in a song of modern lo[D]ve.
[G]Remember you're the one who summoned m[D]e above any other k[A]ind.
G G -> Bm (slide)
First off, I've built on the previous version and filled in some vital missing chords,
changed some wrong ones and amended the lyrics. So the ground work comes courtesy of the
other version.
Now, you can play this with either barre chords or open, it doesn't really matter. I
personally like to play it in barre chords, because in the verse, I like to go Bm, then
slide from the G back up to Bm. It sounds really good, although I don't think the shins
do it that way.
Listen to the song for the timings, how many bars etc, but it's all fairly simple.
If playing open chords, you can quickly hammer on a pinky on the 3rd fret of the B
string at the end of the A chord (making it an asus4)in the pre chorusy section (could have
been so good natured if I'd relented when you insisted (hammer on)) etc. You can hear
this quite clearly in the song, adds a nice touch and makes it sound a little more
interesting on guitar.
The same goes for Barre chords, although then you can just do a slight bend with your
middle finger at the end of the A.
