Here's one of the Bates' great cover-versions. This song's an all time classic and just rocks if played this way. But to cut a long story short, you already know this song well and will hopefully be happy about the tab. You find the chordchart as usually below the song. Have Fun:
HELLO - THE BATES
Intro/Verse(play with some echo effect(or vibrato) and let each chord ring):
[A]Woke up this morning and the [B]streets were full of cars,
[D]all bright and shiny like they'd [A]just arrived from mars,
[A]and as I stumbled through last [B]night's drunken debris,
[D]the paperboy screamed out the [A]headlines in the street.
Verse(now guitar 2 starts with the rhythm, which is kinda folk-rock, but just listen to CD):
[Em]Another war and now the [D]pound is looking weak,
[C]and tell me have you read a[Bm]bout the latest freak?
[Em]We're bingo numbers and our [D]names are obsolete.
C B7(gradually add distortion)
Why do I feel bitter, when I should be feelin' sweet?
Chorus(w/ distortion, all powerchords now, and palm muted punk rhythm):
[E5]Hello , hello[C#5], turn your radio [G#5]on,[B5]
is there [E5]anybody out there[C#5], help me sing my [G#5]song,[B5]
F#5 G#5 - A5 (guitar stops, bass is playing alone)
la la la life is a strange thing:
E (then pick through)
Just when you think you know how to use it, it's gone.
Verse 2 (played the same way as intro/verse):
[A]Woke up this morning and my [B]head was in a dace,
[D]a brave new world has dawned u[A]pon the human race,
[A]where words are meaningless and [B]everything's surreal,
[D]gonna have to reach my friends to [B]find out how I feel.
Verse 2 (played like verse 1, start with the rhythm):
[Em]And if I taste the honey "[D]Is it really sweet?"
[C]And do I eat it with my [Bm]hands or with my feet?
[Em]Does anybody really [D]listen when I speak?
[C]Or will I have to say it a[B7]ll again next week?
-Repeat first part of chorus twice over E5-C#5-G#5-B5 chord progression, change the lyrics of the last line(when played 2nd time) to:
Is there [E5]anybody out there[C#5], tell me what went [G#5]wrong.[B5]
-Then comes the "la la la life" part with some cool guitar solo. You probably want to know it, but I'm not really sure how it is played. So, if you really want it, e-mail me and I'll try to send it to you. You could also look on the OLGA for a guy called Steve Charter(S.P.Charters-CSSE94@cs.bham.ac.uk), who posted the solo for the Shakespeare Sisters version of this song.
-During the solo the rhythm guitar sticks with the Chorus chord progression and repeats the la la la life part.
-Repeat first part of chorus twice, then play la la - part, which is the OUTRO:
guitar 2 lets E - chord ring then guitar 1 fades out silently with A - chord and echo effect. Got it ? :-)
CHORD CHART:

It took me a while getting this one typed. One of the reasons is that they forgot to put the lyrics in the cover, so I had to find those out by myself and I'm not sure, if they're right. Mail me corrections ?
Special thanks for this song goes to Crowpunk@hotmail.com. I'd be really happy to get feedback about this one. Any ska / punksong from any cool band is appreciated, too. Greetings to all Coeur D' Alene, Post Falls and Spokane people and US punkrockers and to Becky L., Gosia, Maria, Japan(Hiroyuki, Yukiko), Sweden(Johanna) and Brazil(Vitor).
